Activity Books and Resources
Classical Studies Activities, Book 1
ISBN: 978-1-877332-49-4
Price: NZ$80.00
Classical Studies Activities is a set of tasks which can be used in the classroom, as individual activities or as homework.
The activities in Book 1 aim to introduce students to terms, skills and concepts which will develop their appreciation of and ability in Classical Studies. This volume gives the student practice in the basic techniques of reading and understanding material and transferring that knowledge into sound answers for assessment purposes. The material used has been chosen to increase the general knowledge of Classical Studies students rather than to relate too closely to any particular unit of study. Schools tend to teach a lesser number of units in their courses so this is one way of increasing the students’ knowledge of the Greek and Roman worlds.
Polygraphia offers this product so that schools which purchase Classical Studies Activities as a resource can photocopy the pages for their students’ use. This will ensure that the students have an attractive permanent record of the activities and can share their interest in the subject with family members.
Polygraphia will prepare and publish a series of these Activity Books to assist students' knowledge of Classical Studies and to increase their hands-on experience of Classical texts and archaeological sites and artefacts. See below for other books now available in this series.
The individual activities/sections can be photocopied and distributed to students for action. The book is strongly produced and will open out flat for photocopying. It also has a high quality canvas cover for durability.

Greek Drama: Comedy and Tragedy
Classroom Tasks
Individual Student Tasks
ISBN 978-1-877332-70-8
Price: NZ$80.00
Classical Studies Activities is a series which can be used in the classroom, as individual activities or as homework.
The Activities in Classical Studies Book 4, Greek Drama aim to deepen the students’ knowledge and appreciation of Greek Comedy and Tragedy. The students are introduced to terms, skills and concepts which will develop their appreciation of and ability in Classical Studies. This volume gives the student practice in the basic techniques of reading and understanding dramatic performances in 5th century BC Athens and transferring that knowledge into sound answers for assessment purposes.
There are activities for beginners and advanced students. The activities particularly relate to Aristophanes’ Wasps and Frogs at Level 3 and to Sophocles’ Oedipus the King and Antigone at Level 2. Some activities can be used at either level because many Level 3 students will not have studied Greek Drama at Level 2 and they will benefit from basic activities. The aim is to immerse the students in Greek Drama and extend their knowledge of the texts. They will then position themselves favourably for any assessment task whether it be NCEA Levels 2 and 3, Scholarship, Cambridge or Baccalaureate assessments.
Polygraphia offers this product so that schools which purchase Classical Studies Activities Book 4, Greek Drama as a resource can photocopy the pages for their students’ use. This will ensure that the students have an attractive permanent record of the activities and can share their interest in the subject with others.

About This Book
The material in Classical Studies Activities Book 5 Athenian Art and Sculpture has been organised into two separate parts. One part covers the architecture and the four architectural set pieces - Propylaia, Parthenon, Erechtheion, Temple of Athena Nike. The second part covers the sculpture and the sculptural set pieces used in preparation for the NCEA Level 2 Unit of study.
The purpose of these activities is to ensure that the students have a clear copy of the set pieces and to ensure that they understand the context of the Acropolis and its post-Persian War buildings which emerged from the Periclean Building Programme of the 5th century BC when Athens was in her 'Golden Age'.
The Activities can be used for classroom tasks, as individual activities or as homework. These Activities include material suitable for all assessment styles. A range of Activities has been prepared.
The students would find it helpful to have access to The City of Athena, Raewyn Gilmour, Polygraphia, 2007. This textbook has background material which will support the study of Greek architecture and sculpture in the context of 6th and 5th century BC Athens and will clarify the events which were taking place at the time of the great achievements and experiments in sculpture and architecture.
The aim of the Activities is to immerse the students in Greek architecture and sculpture and to encourage them to find material beyond the confines of the Level 2 course.
Teachers who purchase this resource may copy the material for the use of their own students.

About This Book
This is another in the popular series for teachers and students using a range of teaching and learning styles. Classical Studies Activities Book 6 has class teaching activities and individual tasks for both home and school work. There are also examination practice activities. Some emphasis is also given to finding suitable material to support statements made by the student in their examination answers.
